EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL

The Environmental Protection Agency and Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA EPD) require operators of constructions sites one acre or larger (including smaller sites that are part of a larger common plan of development) to obtain a permit to discharge storm water under an NPDES construction storm water permit. Also required is the development and approval of an erosion and sediment control plan that includes best management practices to ensure that no polluted runoff leaves the construction site. If these requirements are not followed, GA EPD may issue significant penalties, including stop work orders, to ensure the protection of local streams.
