IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

TTHM VIOLATIONS AT THE CITY OF PORTERDALE WATER SYSTEM

Our community water system recently violated a drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation. We routinely monitor the presence of drinking water contaminants. We have notified the State that our water system exceeded the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for the following.

COMPLIANCE PERIOD                      SITE                   TEST                                  CONCENTRATION                             MCL

                                                                             1Q2026                                            503                    TTHM                                    0.083MG/L                                   0.080MG/L

There is nothing you need to do currently. You do not need to boil your water or take other corrective actions. Residents should not be alarmed and do not need to seek Alternative water supplies. The supplier is taking corrective actions to ensure that adequate monitoring and reporting will be maintained. *Some people who drink water containing Trihalomethanes more than the MCL over many years, may experience problems with their liver, kidneys, or central nervous system, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer. *

If you have a severely compromised immune system, have an infant, are pregnant, or are elderly, you may be at risk and should seek advice from your health care providers about drinking this water.

While we are working to bring the TTHM back to EPA-EPD standards (0.080 mg/l), we will continue doing our quarterly reports, flushing water lines and working with Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority. We will keep our customers informed. As stated, you do not need to do anything, our water is safe to drink. For any additional questions, please call City Hall at (770) 786-2217.
