Old Hotel

In 1923, a girls' dormitory for the young women who worked in the Osprey Mill was built on the road leading into the village from Covington.  It consisted of twenty-six rooms; dormitory bath on each floor, dining room, parlor and kitchen.  It was two floors and heated with steam.

The building was built with bricks left over from the building of the Osprey Mill. The building was known as the Welaunee Inn, later to be known as the Porterdale Inn.  During the same time period, the Bibb Company also built 150 houses on the north side of the river for their employees as well as churches, schools, and community centers.
