In 1941, the Woman's Club proposed to Mr. Oliver Porter to have Bibb Manufacturing Company build a hospital for delivery of babies instead of using their homes. On June 5, a four room mill house was built and a Maternity Hospital was officially opened for business. jane 6, 1943, the hospital was expanded with state-of-the-art operating room. The expansion was a six room mill house with a connecting corridor.
